Pahlmeyer is defined by mountain fruit, possessing the soulful character born of demanding terroir and meticulous farming. We work with some of the most esteemed vineyards in Napa Valley, dramatic mountain terrain in the rugged foothills and ridgelines of the Vaca Mountains. Elevation, sun aspect, and soil types yield small, concentrated berries with tremendous structure and intensity.

We farm deliberately at Pahlmeyer — we’re taking vineyards to the edge and exploring the tension. When you’re making this caliber of wines, you are fiercely selective. The fruit that becomes Pahlmeyer is nothing short of phenomenal, with incredible balance, intensity, and power.

Fieldwork

Farming for the Final Blend

Keenly aware of the personality of each parcel and the performance of each vine, we pinpoint from the start what each lot can contribute to the final blend and what combination of lots will synthesize into a complete wine. We fine-tune our farming day to day, dialing in each block for optimal character and ripeness, moderating Brix levels so that our wines possess focused fruit and ideal acidity.

With every decision we make throughout the growing year, we ask ourselves, ‘What is the vineyard giving us? How do we let each vine be the best version of itself?’ As a result, we end up with an extraordinarily pure expression of each singular block.
